Off Road Adventures Australia

SIMPSON DESERT
Flinders Ranges

Imagine traveling into the remote outback of Australia in the comfort of your own 4WD. This Off Road Adventures Australia tag along tour visits all three state corners and experience the magic that it holds.

This 18 day 4 wheel drive tag along adventure commences at Thargomindah, central Queensland in the centre of opal country. We then travel through the channel country of South West Queensland heading toward Cameron corner via Bulloo downs to Haddon corner and Innaminka. A stop at the infamous dig tree will allow you to relive the ill-fated adventures of Burke and Wills.

Our nights stops includes the remote Coongie lakes said to be the last remaining truly pristine inland lake systems in Australia. An evening meal at the iconic Birdsville pub concludes the first section of our 3X3 outback adventure.

Cross the awe-inspiring Simpson Desert with its 1100 sand dunes and the splendor that only native wildflowers can provide against its red backdrop. It will take us 4 days to cross the Simpson by a varied route that ensures we get to see the best the desert has to offer.

We follow the oil exploration tracks toward Pernie bore on the western side of the desert before arriving at Dalhousie springs for an afternoon rest and relaxing swim in the thermal springs. Leaving Dalhousie we travel via the Oodnadatta track to the pink road house & spend a very pleasant afternoon in the Painted Desert, an incredible series of breakaways. This section of the 3X3 adventure concludes at Coober Pedy with time to explore. An option here is to spend the night in an underground motel.

The last section of this adventure sees us traveling the old Ghan railway to the railhead at Marree (once the home of the famous Birdsville mailman) We then head off into the Gammon ranges & on to the very remote Lake Frome (the most reflective surface on the planet, so we will need our sunnies here) We spend 5 glorious days in the Flinders ranges region which truely needs to be seen to be believed. The magnificence of the colours and the unusual landscapes is the reason this region is the most painted landscape in the southern hemisphere. Every day feels like we are navigating directly into an oil painting. If you wish you can enjoy a flight over Wilpeena pound.
Tour finishes in Broken Hill, Western NSW
